This article walks you through what actually happens at an initial labiaplasty consultation at Dr Georgina Konrat's Bondi Junction practice in Sydney. If you have booked a first consultation — or are considering booking — this explains what you will experience, in the order it happens.
Before the Appointment
A GP referral is required before the initial consultation can be booked. This is a requirement of Australian cosmetic procedure regulations, not a preference of the practice. Your GP writes a short referral letter based on a conversation about why you are considering the procedure.
You will receive a confirmation email when the appointment is booked. This includes the address (Suite 402, Level 4, 59–75 Grafton Street, Bondi Junction), the consultation fee ($165), and a short patient information form.
What to Bring
- Your GP referral letter
- A form of ID (driver's licence or equivalent)
- Your Medicare card
- A list of any medications you currently take
- A list of any previous surgeries
- Any questions you have prepared
There is no requirement to prepare anything specific beyond this. If you have made a list of questions, bring it. If you haven't, you don't need to.
What to Wear
Wear whatever you would wear to a normal medical appointment. Comfortable clothing. No specific dress code. You will be asked if you are comfortable with a clinical examination — you can say no at any point.
When You Arrive
The practice is on Level 4 of Suite 402, 59–75 Grafton Street. There is lift access from the ground floor. You will be greeted by a member of Dr Konrat's all-female clinical team at reception.
After check-in, you will be taken to a private consultation room. You will not sit in a shared waiting area with other patients — the consultations are scheduled so that each patient has private time. The room is private and there is no pressure around timing.
The Consultation Itself
A typical initial consultation takes 30 to 60 minutes. It is in four parts.
1. Medical history
Dr Konrat will ask about:
- The concerns that have led you to consider labiaplasty
- How long you have been thinking about it
- Any physical symptoms (discomfort, chafing, irritation)
- Your general medical history
- Current medications
- Previous surgeries
- Any relevant family medical history
This is a normal medical history conversation. The goal is to understand the clinical picture, not to judge or challenge the decision to consider the procedure.
2. Clinical examination
If you consent, Dr Konrat performs a brief clinical examination of the treatment area. This is optional — if you prefer not to have the examination at the initial consultation, it can be deferred to the second consultation. Many patients prefer to meet Dr Konrat first and schedule the examination for the follow-up.
The examination takes a few minutes. The clinical team provides a private space, appropriate draping, and a chaperone if requested.
3. Technique explanation
Dr Konrat will explain the labiaplasty techniques available, including the DOVE Surgery Technique she developed at her practice in 2005 and documented in the Journal of Cosmetic Surgery and Medicine in 2012. She will explain what each technique does, when each is appropriate, and what she would recommend based on your individual anatomy.
Risks are explained in detail. All surgical procedures carry risks — bleeding, infection, scarring, asymmetry, altered sensation, wound dehiscence, and the possibility of requiring revision surgery. Dr Konrat will not minimise these. If a procedure is unlikely to address your concerns, she will say so.
4. Questions
You will have time to ask questions. Common questions include cost, recovery timeline, anaesthetic options, how long before returning to work, what combinations of procedures are possible. Dr Konrat will also ask if there are any concerns you haven't raised that you'd like to discuss.
What You Will Not Receive at the Initial Consultation
Under Australian regulations, a written fee estimate and any booking decision cannot happen at the initial consultation. Those are deferred to the second consultation. The initial consultation is specifically for assessment and information, not for booking.
You will also not receive a recommendation to "proceed today" or any pressure to commit. If you feel pressured at any medical consultation, that is a red flag — walk away.
After the Appointment
You will leave with:
- A clear explanation of what was discussed
- Written patient information materials about the procedure
- Information on the second consultation (if you wish to proceed to one)
- Dr Konrat's direct email for follow-up questions
If you decide labiaplasty is not right for you, that is a valid outcome. You have had a consultation, received accurate information, and made an informed decision not to proceed. No further action is needed.
If you decide you would like to book a second consultation, the clinical team will help you schedule it. The second consultation is where the written fee estimate is provided and the plan is confirmed. A mandatory 7-day cooling-off period applies after the second consultation before any procedure can be scheduled.
How to Prepare — Honestly
The best preparation is not to do too much preparation. Come with:
- Whatever questions are on your mind, even if they feel silly
- Willingness to discuss the concerns that brought you here
- Realistic expectations (this is a medical consultation, not a sales meeting)
Don't feel you need to have a fully formed plan. That's what the consultation is for.
Risks and Suitability
Labiaplasty is not suitable for everyone. All surgical procedures carry risks including bleeding, infection, scarring, asymmetry, and altered sensation (which may be temporary or permanent). Individual results may vary. The consultation exists to assess whether the procedure is clinically appropriate for your situation.
Booking an Initial Consultation
