Why Patients Travel to Sydney

Dr Georgina Konrat practises from a dedicated labiaplasty practice at Bondi Junction in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Patients travel from every Australian state and territory to consult with Dr Konrat, in part because of the published technique she developed and uses in her practice.

The DOVE Surgery Technique — Double Offset V-Plasty with Extended De-epithelialisation — was published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2012, based on a series of 451 consecutive cases. It uses superficial dissection within the outer tissue layers, preserving the blood supply and nerve pathways underneath and placing the closure within the body of the labia rather than at the visible edge.

Dr Konrat is AHPRA registered (MED0001407863), holds an MBBS from the University of Sydney, is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery and Medicine (FACCSM), and has been practising since 1997. The clinical team is all-female, which is a factor many patients tell us matters to them when travelling for this procedure.

A consultation is required to assess suitability. Labiaplasty is not suitable for everyone, and the consultation is where Dr Konrat reviews your individual anatomy, medical history, and goals.

Flights and Travel

Sydney Airport (SYD) is Australia’s main international gateway and is well connected by daily direct flights from every Australian capital and most regional centres. From the airport it is roughly a 20-minute drive to Bondi Junction, where our practice is located at Suite 402, Level 4, 59–75 Grafton Street.

For most interstate patients the journey is door-to-door under half a day. Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Hobart and the Gold Coast all have multiple direct services every day. Perth, Darwin and North Queensland cities require a longer flight but are still straightforward same-day trips.

Timing Your Trip

Australian cosmetic regulations require a mandatory 7-day cooling-off period between your consultation and any procedure being scheduled. This is a regulatory requirement and applies to every patient, local or interstate. It exists so you have unhurried time to consider your decision.

Interstate patients generally approach this one of two ways:

  • Two trips. One short trip for the consultation, then fly home, then return for the procedure and post-operative check. This is often the most straightforward option if you live within a few hours of Sydney by air.
  • One extended stay. Fly in for the consultation, stay in Sydney for the 7-day cooling-off window, have the procedure, then remain for the first post-operative review before flying home. This suits patients travelling from further afield.

Our patient coordinator will help you map out dates once you have booked a consultation, so you can arrange flights and accommodation with confidence.

Accommodation in Bondi Junction

Bondi Junction is a good base for interstate patients. It is a well-serviced suburb with hotels and serviced apartments near Westfield Bondi Junction, supermarkets and pharmacies within walking distance, a direct train line to the city, and Bondi Beach a short drive away for gentle walks during recovery.

We do not have a formal partnership with any particular hotel, so patients are free to choose accommodation that suits their budget and preferences. A serviced apartment with a kitchenette is a common choice for patients staying longer than a few nights, as it makes light cooking and laundry easier in the first week after the procedure.

When booking, prioritise proximity to the practice and ground-floor or lift access — stairs are uncomfortable in the first few days of recovery.

Follow-Up Care for Interstate Patients

Dr Konrat reviews every patient in person after surgery before clearing them to travel home. For most interstate patients this first review happens a few days after the procedure. Subsequent follow-up appointments are conducted by phone or video, so you do not need to fly back to Sydney for routine checks.

If a concern arises once you are home, you can contact the practice directly and Dr Konrat or one of our clinical nurses will talk you through it. Where appropriate, we can coordinate with a local GP for in-person assessment, and arrange a return visit to Sydney if it is clinically necessary. All surgical procedures carry risks, and having a clear plan for follow-up is part of how we manage that.

How many trips to Sydney are needed for labiaplasty with Dr Konrat?

Australian cosmetic regulations require a mandatory 7-day cooling-off period between the consultation and the procedure being scheduled. Interstate patients travelling to our Bondi Junction practice typically manage this in one of two ways. Some fly in for the consultation, return home, then come back once the cooling-off window has passed for the procedure and first post-operative review — two trips in total. Others prefer a single extended stay: they fly in for the consultation, remain in Sydney for the 7-day window, have the procedure, and stay through their first in-person post-operative check before flying home. The right choice depends on how far you are travelling, your work and family commitments, and your personal preferences. Our patient coordinator helps every interstate patient plan dates once a consultation is booked. A consultation is required to assess suitability.

Cities We Welcome Patients From

Dr Konrat sees patients from every state and territory. Below are dedicated information pages for patients travelling from specific cities, each covering local flight options and practical travel notes.

How does follow-up care work if I live interstate?

Dr Georgina Konrat reviews every patient in person after labiaplasty before they travel home. For most interstate patients this first review is a few days after the procedure at our Bondi Junction practice. After that, follow-up appointments are conducted by phone or video, so routine checks do not require another flight to Sydney. If a concern arises once you are home, you can contact the practice directly and either Dr Konrat or one of our clinical nurses will talk you through it. Where appropriate, we coordinate with a local GP for an in-person assessment, and arrange a return visit to Sydney if that is clinically necessary. All surgical procedures carry risks including bleeding, infection, scarring, asymmetry and altered sensation, and individual results may vary. A clear follow-up plan is part of how we manage those risks for patients who do not live locally.
