RevisionLabiaplasty

Corrective labiaplasty with Dr Georgina Konrat in Bondi Junction

Last updated:

Sometimes a previous labiaplasty doesn't heal the way it should, or the result isn't what was expected. Revision labiaplasty addresses those concerns. Dr Georgina Konrat sees revision cases regularly at her Bondi Junction practice and will give you a straightforward assessment of what can be done.

Duration:90–120 min
Recovery:2–3 weeks

Hospital Stay:Day procedure

What Is Revision Labiaplasty?

Revision labiaplasty is a second operation on the labia minora after a previous labiaplasty. Patients come in with different concerns — asymmetry, irregular edges, too much tissue left behind, too much taken away, scarring, or ongoing discomfort.

No two revision cases look the same. What technique was used the first time, how much tissue was removed, and how the area healed all affect the approach. Dr Konrat needs to examine you in person before she can outline a plan.

Why Revision May Be Needed

People seek revision for different reasons. The first procedure may not have gone as planned, or the wound may have separated during healing and left an uneven result.

Common reasons include:

  • One side noticeably different from the other
  • Edges that healed unevenly or with visible irregularity
  • Too much tissue still remaining
  • Too much tissue removed (over-resection)
  • Scar tissue that pulls, feels tight, or causes discomfort
  • Wound breakdown that healed poorly

Some asymmetry is normal in everyone. It doesn't always mean revision is warranted. Dr Konrat will be upfront about whether surgery is likely to make a meaningful difference for you.

Dr Konrat's Approach to Revision Cases

Revisions are harder than first-time procedures. Scar tissue behaves differently to normal tissue — the blood supply has changed, elasticity is reduced, and the usual anatomical landmarks may not be as clear.

Dr Konrat applies principles from the DOVE Surgery Technique in revision cases. The superficial dissection method allows her to work through scar tissue while preserving what blood supply and nerve function remain. That said, every revision is adapted to the individual. There is no standard approach.

She will see patients whose first labiaplasty was done by another doctor. Bring any surgical records or operative notes you have — they help, but they're not essential.

The Consultation Process

The consultation matters more with revision cases than with first-time procedures. Dr Konrat will examine you, talk through what's bothering you, and look at any records from your previous surgery.

She'll explain what revision can and can't do in your situation. If she doesn't think the surgery is worth the risk, she'll tell you. Not every case benefits from a second operation.

A mandatory 7-day cooling-off period applies between the consultation and any scheduled procedure.

Recovery After Revision Labiaplasty

Recovery follows a similar path to a first-time labiaplasty, but expect it to take a bit longer. Scar tissue from the previous surgery slows things down.

Plan for one to two weeks off work. Swelling and bruising are normal for the first two to three weeks. No strenuous exercise, swimming, or sexual activity for at least six weeks.

Dr Konrat schedules follow-up appointments to check how you're healing. The area continues to settle over three to six months. With scar tissue involved, healing can be less predictable than it was the first time around.

Risks and Complications

Revision carries more risk than a first-time labiaplasty. The anatomy has already been altered, scar tissue is present, and outcomes are harder to predict.

Possible complications include bleeding, infection, slow wound healing, wound breakdown, asymmetry that persists or worsens, changes in sensation (which can be permanent), additional scarring, chronic pain, and the need for further surgery.

Dr Konrat goes through all of this during the consultation. If you're considering revision, you need to understand both what may be gained and what the limits are.

Who is it for

You may be a candidate if

01

Unsatisfactory Previous Result

Dissatisfaction with the outcome of a previous labiaplasty performed by any doctor.

02

Persistent Asymmetry

Uneven results following a prior procedure that have not resolved during healing.

03

Over-Resection

Too much tissue was removed during a previous procedure, causing functional or aesthetic concerns.

04

Scarring or Complications

Wound complications, chronic discomfort, or visible scarring from a prior labiaplasty.

Suitability is assessed on a case-by-case basis during consultation.

The procedure

How it works

Step 01

Detailed Assessment

Dr Konrat evaluates your previous surgery, current anatomy, scar tissue, and remaining tissue to determine what is achievable.

Step 02

Surgical Planning

A tailored revision plan is created based on your individual anatomy and the specific concerns from your prior procedure.

Step 03

Revision Procedure

The procedure addresses the specific concern — whether that involves tissue reconstruction, scar revision, or asymmetry correction.

Step 04

Recovery & Follow-Up

Close monitoring during recovery with scheduled follow-up appointments to track healing progress.

Recovery

What happens after

Recovery varies. These are general guidelines — Dr Konrat provides individual advice at follow-up.

01

Day 1–3

Rest at home with cold compresses. Expect more swelling than a primary procedure due to scar tissue.

02

Week 1–3

Gradual return to desk work. Revision recovery is often slightly longer than a primary procedure.

03

Week 4–6

Gentle exercise may resume. Avoid strenuous activity and sexual intercourse until cleared by Dr Konrat.

04

Month 3–6

Final results become visible. Scar tissue from the previous procedure takes longer to settle.

Costs

The cost of revision labiaplasty depends on the complexity involved and what was done in the previous surgery. Dr Konrat provides a detailed quote after examining you in person.

Consultation fee: $165 (applied toward the surgical fee if you proceed).

Common questions

All surgical procedures carry risks including bleeding, infection, scarring, asymmetry, and altered sensation. Individual results may vary. A 7-day cooling-off period applies before any procedure can be scheduled. A consultation is required to assess suitability.
