Tumescent liposuction under local anaesthetic in Bondi Junction
Last updated:
Dr Georgina Konrat performs mons pubis liposuction at her Bondi Junction practice. The procedure uses tumescent anaesthesia to remove excess fatty tissue from the mons pubis, with no general anaesthetic required.
What Is Mons Pubis Liposuction?
The mons pubis sits above the pubic bone. It is a pad of fatty tissue that can become larger due to genetics, weight changes, hormonal shifts, or ageing. When it does, it may cause chafing, make clothing uncomfortable, or create hygiene difficulties.
Mons pubis liposuction removes that excess fat through small incisions using the tumescent technique. Skin is not removed — the procedure addresses fatty tissue only. The result is a flatter, more proportionate mons area.
The Tumescent Technique
Before any fat is removed, Dr Konrat injects a dilute solution of local anaesthetic and adrenaline into the mons pubis. This is the tumescent technique.
The solution numbs the area and constricts blood vessels, which reduces bleeding. It also firms up the fatty tissue, making it easier to remove evenly.
Fat is then suctioned out through small cannulas inserted via incisions of a few millimetres. These incisions are placed where they will be least visible.
General anaesthesia is not needed. You stay awake throughout the procedure, which avoids the risks that come with a general anaesthetic and means a shorter recovery on the day.
Who May Be a Candidate
This procedure is for patients with a localised fatty deposit in the mons pubis that hasn't responded to diet or exercise. The fullness may be causing discomfort during activity, making clothing fit poorly, or creating hygiene issues.
It is not a weight loss treatment. Patients should be at or close to a stable weight.
If there is significant loose skin in the area, liposuction alone may not be enough — it removes fat, not skin. Dr Konrat will assess your anatomy at consultation and let you know what a realistic outcome looks like for you.
What to Expect on the Day
You arrive at our Bondi Junction practice, change into a gown, and the treatment area is marked. The tumescent solution is injected and given a short time to take full effect.
Dr Konrat then performs the liposuction through small incisions using fine cannulas. Most patients feel pressure and movement but no pain. The whole thing takes about 45 to 60 minutes.
Afterwards, a compression garment is applied and you rest briefly before going home the same day. You will need someone to drive you.
Recovery and Aftercare
You will wear a compression garment for roughly two to four weeks. Dr Konrat will tell you the exact duration based on your case.
Swelling, bruising, and tenderness are normal. They tend to peak in the first week and then settle gradually. Some tumescent fluid may drain from the incision sites for the first day or two — this is expected.
Most patients are back at a desk within a few days to a week. Hold off on heavy exercise for three to four weeks. The final result takes two to three months to appear as swelling fully resolves.
Follow-up appointments are booked to check how you are healing.
Risks and Complications
Like any surgical procedure, mons pubis liposuction carries risks. These include bleeding, infection, bruising, prolonged swelling, seroma (fluid collection), uneven results, numbness or changed sensation, and scarring at the incision sites.
Occasionally a second procedure is needed if residual fat remains or the result is uneven once healing is complete.
Dr Konrat goes through all relevant risks at your consultation. You will have time to ask questions and think it over before deciding to proceed.
Who is it for
You may be a candidate if
Excess Fullness
Noticeable fullness in the mons pubis area due to genetics, weight changes, or hormonal factors.
Clothing Discomfort
Difficulty with clothing fit or visible prominence through activewear and swimwear.
Physical Irritation
Chafing, irritation, or discomfort during physical activity caused by excess tissue volume.
Combined Procedure
May be performed alongside labiaplasty for patients who would benefit from both procedures.
Suitability is assessed on a case-by-case basis during consultation.
The procedure
How it works
Consultation & Assessment
Dr Konrat assesses the treatment area, discusses your goals, and determines whether liposuction is appropriate.
Tumescent Anaesthesia
A dilute anaesthetic solution is injected to numb the area, reduce bleeding, and firm the tissue for removal.
Liposuction
Small cannulas are used through tiny incisions to gently remove excess fatty tissue in a controlled manner.
Recovery & Discharge
You rest in our recovery area before being discharged the same day with compression garment and aftercare instructions.
Recovery
What happens after
Recovery varies. These are general guidelines — Dr Konrat provides individual advice at follow-up.
Day 1–3
Rest at home. Wear the compression garment as directed. Bruising and swelling are expected.
Week 1–2
Most patients return to desk work. Continue wearing the compression garment. Swelling gradually reduces.
Week 4–6
Gentle exercise may resume. The treatment area continues to settle and reduce in volume.
Month 3–6
Final results become apparent as all post-operative swelling resolves completely.
Costs
Fees depend on how much treatment is needed. If mons pubis liposuction is done at the same time as labiaplasty, a combined price may apply.
You will receive a detailed fee estimate after your consultation. The consultation fee is $165, which is credited toward the surgical fee if you go ahead.
Common questions
All surgical procedures carry risks including bleeding, infection, scarring, asymmetry, and altered sensation. Individual results may vary. A 7-day cooling-off period applies before any procedure can be scheduled. A consultation is required to assess suitability.
