Book a Consultation

Wollongong is close enough to Sydney that a trip to Bondi Junction is very much a regional visit rather than an interstate one. There are no commercial flights between the two — nor would they make sense given the distance — so the question is really about driving versus the train, and about how to organise the days around the procedure itself. This page sets that out.

Dr Georgina Konrat runs a dedicated labiaplasty practice in Bondi Junction, Sydney. Labiaplasty is not suitable for everyone and all surgical procedures carry risks. A consultation is required to assess suitability before any decision can be made.

Why Patients Travel from Wollongong to Sydney

Wollongong patients usually travel to Sydney to access a practice focused specifically on labiaplasty. Dr Konrat developed the DOVE Surgery Technique — Double Offset V-Plasty with Extended De-epithelialisation — and published it in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2012 based on a series of 451 consecutive cases. The technique uses superficial dissection within the outer tissue layers, preserving the blood supply and nerve pathways underneath, and places the closure within the body of the labia rather than at the visible edge.

Some patients also appreciate the slight privacy created by travelling outside their local medical community. Individual results may vary.

Travel from Wollongong

There are no direct flights between Wollongong and Sydney, so the realistic options are driving or taking the train. Driving from Wollongong to Bondi Junction is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes via the M1 Princes Motorway and the Eastern Distributor, depending on traffic and time of day. Most patients find this the simplest option because it offers direct access and full control of the schedule.

The South Coast Line train runs frequently from Wollongong to Sydney Central, taking approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes. From Central, the T4 Eastern Suburbs Line goes directly to Bondi Junction in around 10 minutes. Total door-to-door time by train is therefore similar to driving, without the need for parking.

For patients travelling to Sydney Airport first — if connecting from a further regional trip — Bondi Junction is approximately 20 to 30 minutes by taxi or rideshare from SYD, or 25 minutes by train.

Where to Stay in Bondi Junction

Bondi Junction has a good range of accommodation within walking distance of the clinic. Options include international-branded hotels near Westfield Bondi Junction, serviced apartments that work well for stays of several nights, and smaller guesthouses in the streets around the precinct. Bondi Beach is a short bus or rideshare ride away for gentle outings if cleared during recovery.

For Wollongong patients driving up, parking availability at your hotel is worth checking when booking — most hotels in Bondi Junction offer paid parking, as does Westfield. We do not recommend specific hotels by name.

Timing Your Trip

A 7-day cooling-off period applies after your consultation before any procedure can be scheduled. Wollongong patients typically use the two-trip approach because travel is short and inexpensive relative to other options: a day trip for the consultation, then a few nights in Sydney for the procedure and early recovery. Telehealth consultations may be possible in some circumstances — ask via the contact page.

A typical Wollongong two-trip schedule: drive or train to Sydney in the morning, consultation, return home that afternoon. At least seven days later, travel up the day before surgery, day procedure, two or three nights in Sydney for initial recovery, clinic review, then home with a support person at the wheel (if driving).

Recovery Considerations for Interstate Patients

Labiaplasty is a 60 to 90 minute day procedure under oral sedation or general anaesthetic, decided at consultation. Most patients take 1 to 2 weeks off work, with full activity typically resuming around 6 to 8 weeks. Travelling home to Wollongong is usually possible 48 to 72 hours after surgery with clinical clearance. For patients driving, a support person driver is strongly recommended; for train passengers, a support person is still a good idea and a seat with easy access to facilities helps.

Once home in Wollongong, the clinic remains available by phone and email, and follow-up can often be arranged by telehealth. Any Illawarra GP or emergency department can provide initial assessment if an urgent concern arises and liaise with Sydney. The short distance back also means any follow-up in person is relatively easy to arrange. See the recovery page.

Costs for Travelling Patients

The consultation fee is $165. Surgical fees vary with complexity and are discussed at your consultation — full breakdown on the labiaplasty cost Sydney page. Travel costs for Wollongong patients are among the lowest of any out-of-Sydney patient — fuel, tolls, parking and a few nights' accommodation. Labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons is not covered by Medicare.
