Recovery Timeline

Days 1–3

The first few days involve the most swelling and discomfort. Rest is essential during this period. You may experience:

  • Swelling and bruising in the treated area
  • Mild to moderate discomfort, managed with prescribed pain relief
  • Some spotting or light bleeding, which is normal

Ice packs (wrapped in cloth) may be applied intermittently to help manage swelling. Keep the area clean and dry.

Weeks 1–2

Swelling begins to subside but the area will still be tender. Most patients take one to two weeks off work, depending on the nature of their job.

  • Swelling will gradually reduce
  • Avoid tight clothing — wear loose, breathable underwear and bottoms
  • Gentle walking is encouraged to promote circulation
  • Avoid sitting for prolonged periods where possible
  • No strenuous activity, exercise, or heavy lifting

Weeks 2–4

By this stage, most patients are feeling noticeably more comfortable. Residual swelling continues to resolve.

  • Many patients return to desk-based work by week two
  • Light exercise (walking) may be resumed as tolerated
  • No swimming, baths, or submerging in water until cleared by Dr Konrat
  • Continue wearing loose clothing
  • Follow-up appointment with Dr Konrat during this period

Weeks 4–6

  • Most normal daily activities can be resumed
  • Exercise may be gradually reintroduced, starting with low-impact activities
  • Sexual intercourse should be avoided until at least six weeks post-surgery and only with clearance from Dr Konrat
  • Tampons should not be used until cleared

3+ Months

Most swelling has resolved by this stage, though subtle changes may continue for up to six months as tissues fully mature. Scars will continue to fade over time.

All normal activities, including exercise, swimming, and sexual intercourse, can typically be resumed by this stage, provided you have been cleared at your follow-up appointment.

Aftercare Instructions

Following Dr Konrat’s aftercare instructions is important for a smooth recovery. Key guidelines include:

  • Hygiene — Keep the area clean. Gently rinse with lukewarm water after using the bathroom. Pat dry with a clean, soft towel. Avoid soaps, perfumed products, or wipes on the surgical area.
  • Medication — Take prescribed pain relief and any antibiotics exactly as directed. Do not take aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication unless instructed by Dr Konrat.
  • Clothing — Wear loose cotton underwear and loose-fitting trousers or skirts. Avoid tight jeans, leggings, or synthetic fabrics during the initial recovery.
  • Activity — Rest for the first few days. Gentle walking is fine but avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and cycling for at least four to six weeks.
  • Work — Plan for one to two weeks off work, depending on the physical demands of your role. See our FAQ for more on returning to work.
  • Follow-up — Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments so Dr Konrat can monitor your healing.

All surgical procedures carry risks including bleeding, infection, scarring, asymmetry, and altered sensation. Read our full risks and complications page. Individual results may vary. Recovery experiences differ between patients. A 7-day cooling-off period applies before any procedure can be scheduled. See labiaplasty costs for fee details.
