Labiaplasty for Patients Travelling from Newcastle
Dr Georgina Konrat (MBBS, FACCSM) — Bondi Junction, Sydney
Information for women in Newcastle and the Hunter Region considering labiaplasty and a trip to Sydney for the procedure. A consultation is required to assess suitability.
Newcastle sits just far enough from Sydney that travelling feels like an intentional trip, and just close enough that the logistics are straightforward. Most patients from Newcastle and the Hunter Region drive rather than fly, which changes a few things about planning a labiaplasty trip compared with patients coming from other states.
Dr Georgina Konrat runs a dedicated labiaplasty practice in Bondi Junction, Sydney. This page covers the practical side of a Newcastle trip — driving versus flying, accommodation, timing, recovery, and costs. Labiaplasty is not suitable for everyone and all surgical procedures carry risks. A consultation is required to assess suitability.

Why Patients Travel from Newcastle to Sydney
Most Newcastle patients travel to Sydney to access a practice focused specifically on labiaplasty. Dr Konrat developed the DOVE Surgery Technique — Double Offset V-Plasty with Extended De-epithelialisation — and published it in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2012 based on 451 consecutive cases. It uses superficial dissection within the outer tissue layers, preserving the blood supply and nerve pathways underneath, with the closure placed within the body of the labia rather than at the visible edge.
Given the short distance, Newcastle patients often find the logistics the easiest of any interstate or regional trip, with no flights needed if they prefer to drive. Individual results may vary.

Flights and Travel from Newcastle
Newcastle to Sydney is approximately a 35 minute flight when available, with services operating between Newcastle Airport (NTL) in Williamtown and Sydney Kingsford Smith (SYD). Frequency is limited compared with interstate routes — sometimes only a handful of flights per day — so most Newcastle patients actually choose to drive instead.
Driving from Newcastle to Bondi Junction is approximately 2 hours via the M1 Pacific Motorway and the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, traffic permitting. Many patients find this the simplest option — direct access, no airport time, and full control of the schedule. Driving home after surgery is not advised in the first few days; a support person driver is preferable for the return trip.
From Sydney Airport (if flying), Bondi Junction is approximately 20 to 30 minutes by taxi or rideshare, or around 25 minutes by train via the Airport Line and T4 Eastern Suburbs Line.
Where to Stay in Bondi Junction
Bondi Junction has a good range of accommodation within walking distance of the clinic, including international-branded hotels near Westfield Bondi Junction, serviced apartments that suit longer stays, and smaller guesthouses nearby. Bondi Beach is a short bus or rideshare trip away for gentle outings once cleared.
For Newcastle patients driving down, parking availability and cost is worth checking when booking — most hotels in Bondi Junction offer paid parking, and Westfield has paid public parking too. We do not recommend specific hotels by name.
Timing Your Trip
A 7-day cooling-off period applies after your consultation before any procedure can be scheduled. For Newcastle patients, both the two-trip and single-trip approaches work well. Telehealth consultations may be possible in some circumstances — ask via the contact page.
A typical Newcastle two-trip schedule: drive down in the morning, consultation, drive home that afternoon. At least seven days later, drive down the day before surgery (or morning of), day procedure, two or three nights in Sydney for initial recovery, clinic review, then home with a support person driving.
Recovery Considerations for Interstate Patients
Labiaplasty is a 60 to 90 minute day procedure under oral sedation or general anaesthetic, decided at consultation. Most patients take 1 to 2 weeks off work, with full activity typically resuming around 6 to 8 weeks. Travelling home to Newcastle — by car with a support person driving, or by flight — is usually possible 48 to 72 hours after surgery with clinical clearance. Dr Konrat will advise based on individual recovery.
For the drive home, regular stops to stand up and walk a short distance help with comfort in the first few days after surgery. Once home in Newcastle, the clinic remains available by phone and email, follow-up can often be arranged by telehealth, and any NSW GP or emergency department can provide initial assessment if needed. See the recovery page.
Costs for Travelling Patients
The consultation fee is $165. Surgical fees depend on the complexity of the procedure and are discussed at your consultation — full breakdown on the labiaplasty cost Sydney page. For Newcastle patients, travel costs are typically the lowest of any out-of-Sydney patient — fuel, tolls, parking and accommodation rather than airfares. Labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons is not covered by Medicare.
