Labiaplasty for Patients Travelling from Geelong
Dr Georgina Konrat (MBBS, FACCSM) — Bondi Junction, Sydney
Information for women in Geelong and regional Victoria considering labiaplasty and a trip to Sydney for the procedure. A consultation is required to assess suitability.
Geelong does not have direct flights to Sydney, so a trip to Sydney for labiaplasty involves either connecting through Melbourne or taking a longer drive. This adds a small amount of complexity compared with Melbourne patients, but it is very manageable with a little planning. This page explains what that looks like in practice.
Dr Georgina Konrat runs a dedicated labiaplasty practice in Bondi Junction, Sydney. Labiaplasty is not suitable for everyone, all surgical procedures carry risks, and a consultation is required to assess suitability before any decision can be made.

Why Patients Travel from Geelong to Sydney
The usual reason Geelong patients travel is to access a practice focused specifically on labiaplasty. Dr Konrat developed the DOVE Surgery Technique — Double Offset V-Plasty with Extended De-epithelialisation — and published it in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2012 based on a series of 451 consecutive cases. The technique uses superficial dissection within the outer tissue layers, preserving the blood supply and nerve pathways underneath, and places the closure within the body of the labia rather than at the visible edge.
Privacy can also play a role for patients in regional Victoria where medical communities are more tightly connected. Individual results may vary.

Flights and Travel from Geelong
There are no direct flights from Geelong (Avalon Airport, AVV) to Sydney in most schedules, so the practical options are either connecting through Melbourne (MEL) or driving the full distance. Geelong to Melbourne Airport is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes by car, and Melbourne to Sydney is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes in the air, with Qantas, Virgin Australia and Jetstar all operating frequent services. Door-to-door, this usually adds around 3 to 4 hours each way compared with a Melbourne resident.
Avalon Airport itself does operate some Sydney services depending on the schedule, so it is worth checking for direct options when you book — it is much closer to Geelong and saves the Melbourne Airport drive if a direct flight is available.
Driving from Geelong to Sydney is approximately 9 hours and almost no patient chooses this for a surgical trip. From Sydney Airport, Bondi Junction is approximately 20 to 30 minutes by taxi or rideshare, or around 25 minutes by train via the Airport Line and T4 Eastern Suburbs Line.
Where to Stay in Bondi Junction
Bondi Junction offers a mix of accommodation within walking distance of the clinic. Options include international-branded hotels near Westfield Bondi Junction, serviced apartments that work well for longer stays, and smaller guesthouses on the streets around the centre. Bondi Beach is a short bus or rideshare ride away for gentle outings during later recovery if cleared.
We do not recommend specific hotels by name. Priorities: a quiet room, a comfortable bed, lift access, and a short walk to the clinic.
Timing Your Trip
A 7-day cooling-off period applies after your consultation before any procedure can be scheduled. Because Geelong patients face the same travel commitment twice when using the two-trip approach (including the Melbourne Airport drive), many prefer a single longer trip to Sydney spanning the cooling-off window. Telehealth consultations may be possible in some circumstances — ask via the contact page.
A single-trip Geelong schedule might look like: drive to Melbourne Airport, fly to Sydney in the morning, in-person consultation that afternoon, seven quiet days in Sydney, procedure as a day surgery, two or three further nights for initial recovery, clinic review, then return flight and drive home.
Recovery Considerations for Interstate Patients
Labiaplasty is a 60 to 90 minute day procedure under oral sedation or general anaesthetic, decided at consultation. Most patients take 1 to 2 weeks off work, with full activity typically resuming around 6 to 8 weeks. Flying is usually possible 48 to 72 hours after surgery with clinical clearance. Dr Konrat will advise based on individual recovery.
For Geelong patients, the return journey includes a flight plus the drive home from Melbourne Airport, so allowing an extra rest stop at Melbourne and a support person to drive home from the airport is sensible. Once home in Geelong, the clinic remains available by phone and email, and follow-up can often be arranged by telehealth. Any Victorian GP or emergency department can provide initial assessment if needed and liaise with Sydney. See the recovery page.
Costs for Travelling Patients
The consultation fee is $165. Surgical fees vary with complexity and are discussed at your consultation — full breakdown on the labiaplasty cost Sydney page. For Geelong patients, travel costs include the Melbourne Airport drive or parking, flights, accommodation in Sydney, and ground transport. Labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons is not covered by Medicare.
