Labiaplasty for Patients Travelling from Canberra
Dr Georgina Konrat (MBBS, FACCSM) — Bondi Junction, Sydney
Practical information for women in Canberra and the ACT considering labiaplasty and a trip to Sydney for the procedure. A consultation is required to assess suitability.
Canberra is one of the easier interstate cities to travel from for a medical trip to Sydney. The flight is short, and for many patients driving is actually a realistic alternative. That flexibility changes the logistics quite a bit compared with cities further away, and it can make planning around work and family commitments simpler.
Dr Georgina Konrat runs a dedicated labiaplasty practice in Bondi Junction, Sydney. This page sets out what a trip from Canberra involves — flights versus driving, accommodation, timing around the cooling-off period, and recovery. Labiaplasty is not suitable for everyone, and all surgical procedures carry risks. A consultation is required before any decision can be made.

Why Patients Travel from Canberra to Sydney
Canberra patients most often travel for access to a practice focused specifically on labiaplasty. Dr Konrat developed the DOVE Surgery Technique — Double Offset V-Plasty with Extended De-epithelialisation — and published it in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2012 based on 451 consecutive cases. The technique uses superficial dissection within the outer tissue layers, preserving the blood supply and nerve pathways underneath, with the closure placed within the body of the labia rather than at the visible edge.
Privacy is also a factor for some ACT patients, given how small and interconnected the Canberra community can be. A short trip to Sydney naturally creates separation from work and social circles during early recovery. Individual results may vary.

Flights and Travel from Canberra
Canberra to Sydney is approximately a 55 minute flight. Qantas and Virgin Australia operate multiple daily services between Canberra Airport (CBR) and Sydney Kingsford Smith (SYD) throughout the business day. Because the flight is so short and the airports are relatively close, Canberra patients often find this is one of the simplest routes to Sydney, with easy same-day turnarounds.
Driving is also a genuine option from Canberra. The drive is approximately 3 hours via the Federal and Hume highways, which for some patients is a more comfortable choice — no airport time, direct access to Bondi Junction, and the ability to bring everything you might need. Driving home after surgery is not advised in the first few days; a support person driver is preferable if this route is chosen.
From Sydney Airport, Bondi Junction is approximately 20 to 30 minutes by taxi or rideshare, or around 25 minutes by train via the Airport Line and T4 Eastern Suburbs Line.
Where to Stay in Bondi Junction
Bondi Junction has a reasonable range of accommodation within walking distance of the clinic. Options include international-branded hotels near Westfield Bondi Junction, serviced apartments suited to stays of several nights, and smaller guesthouses in the surrounding streets. Bondi Beach is a short bus or rideshare ride away for gentle outings once cleared.
We do not recommend specific hotels by name. Priorities are the same as for any interstate patient: a quiet room, a comfortable bed, lift access, and a short walk to the clinic.
Timing Your Trip
A 7-day cooling-off period applies after your consultation before any procedure can be scheduled. Because Canberra is so close, the two-trip approach is particularly workable — the consultation can be a day trip, and the procedure trip can be kept to a few nights. Telehealth consultations may be possible in some circumstances; this can be discussed via the contact page.
A typical two-trip schedule: fly or drive to Sydney for the consultation and return the same day. At least seven days later, travel again the day before surgery, day procedure, two or three nights for initial recovery, a clinic review, then home.
Recovery Considerations for Interstate Patients
Labiaplasty is a 60 to 90 minute day procedure under oral sedation or general anaesthetic, decided at consultation. Most patients require 1 to 2 weeks off work, with full activity typically resuming around 6 to 8 weeks. Travelling back to Canberra is usually possible 48 to 72 hours after surgery with clinical clearance. For patients driving home, a support person as driver is strongly recommended — prolonged sitting is less comfortable in early recovery and stopping regularly to move helps.
Once home in Canberra, the clinic remains available by phone and email, and follow-up appointments can often be arranged by telehealth. Any ACT GP or emergency department can provide initial assessment if an urgent concern arises and liaise with Sydney. More on the recovery page.
Costs for Travelling Patients
The consultation fee is $165. Surgical fees depend on the complexity of the procedure and are discussed at your consultation — full breakdown on the labiaplasty cost Sydney page. For Canberra patients, travel costs are usually lower than for other interstate patients because the flight is short and driving is an option. Labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons is not covered by Medicare.
